Mission of Special Olympics
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children (at least 8 years old) and adults with cognitive disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Core Values
Mutual Respect, Positive Attitude, Accountability, Teamwork and Dedication are the values Special Olympics Wisconsin lives by to create an environment of integrity where winning is more than coming in first.
Agency #2-11
Northern Access is a local agency of Special Olympics Wisconsin serving athletes with cognitive disabilities in the Great Lakes area of northern Wisconsin including, but not limited to, Conover, Eagle River, Land O' Lakes, Sayner and St. Germain, Wisconsin. For more information, please contact Northern Access Special Olympic Agency Managers Mary & Lou Deditz at 715.479.2737.
Become an Athlete
From bowling to snowshoeing or basketball to track and field, Special Olympics is an opportunity for friends and families to share in the accomplishments of individuals with developmental disabilities… be part of a year-round sports training and competition program that everyone can enjoy… and share the joy with other friends and families.
Northern Access, a local Special Olympics Agency, continuously encourages new athletes. In order to participate in any sponsored Special Olympic event, all athletes must have medical information completed and returned to Special Olympics Wisconsin Headquarters before participation can occur.
Become an Athlete
Athletes, families and friends can choose their level of involvement in our Special Olympics program. Friends and families not only provide encouragement and love, but may also coach, offer transportation, assist with fundraising, officiate, chaperone and train other volunteers.
If you are new to Special Olympics and would like to become an athlete, please contact
Katherine Maney, Northern Access Medical Records Manager at 715.479.6471.
Volunteer
We believe that Special Olympics reveals the very best in human nature and character. We feel our families are strengthened and we hopefully help the community at large to accept and respect persons who may be different. It is only through the continued support of people just like you that our local athletes will be able to participate in this program.
A Class A volunteer is one who has direct contact with athletes. Therefore, if you would like to coach, transport athletes, chaperone events or serve as a Committee Member, you must be a Class A volunteer.
