Parents of students, and students themselves, considering college attendance should consult the guidance department at the Northland Pines High School along with specific college catalogs in order to insure proper high school course selection. The University of Wisconsin schools have gone through numerous admission changes. Therefore, it is recommended that you contact the guidance office for specific school requirements.
Current ACT and University of Wisconsin Admissions officers recommend and some require the following courses for college preparation:
English (4 or more credits required)
One (1) credit each in English I, II, III, and the required 12th grade English credit with emphasis on grammar, literature, and composition.
Math (3 or more credits required)
One (1) year each in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and additional in any Trigonometry, Calculus or Math beyond Algebra II.
Social Studies (3 or more credits required)
One (1) year credit in U.S. History or World History.
Science (3 or more credits required)
One (1) credit each in Physical Science, Ecology and Environmental Impact, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Biology or Physics. (Courses should be lab orientated in nature)
Foreign Language (recommended but some schools do require for entrance)
Two (2) or more years of the same foreign language.
