- These schools are currently very popular because they do train students to have a marketable skill, which is needed, in today's labor market.
- Many of the programs are receiving applications at a rate many times greater than the schools can accept for enrollment.
- The stronger the student's high school record, the more options the student will have when he/she is seeking post high school training. Of particular value is a good academic record in high school courses related to specific vocational or technical interests.
- The student must have a high school diploma as a minimum requirement for enrollment in most vocational and technical programs. Prerequisites may be required in some programs, please check with your guidance counselor.
- Students can minimize, but not eliminate, the risks of being denied admission to technical and vocational programs in his/her preference by searching through career and occupational information starting early in their high school years. This searching should be an on-going process. The school has available many resources to help the student with his/her planning. The student should plan with the counselor, attend career information programs look through technical and vocational school catalogs and brochures, which are available in the guidance center, and schedule visits to likely schools.
- The student may also want to keep in mind the many other types of training programs available including apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and the armed services. Each area requires different backgrounds, so it is a good idea to explore these possibilities throughout your high school years.
