7TH GRADE ART
This course will give students the opportunity to experiment with a variety of new two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums. Copper embossing, scratchboard, clay sculpture, wood burning, and linoleum block printing will allow students to learn new techniques while finding unique ways to follow their interests. Creative drawing, painting, and design projects provide many artistic avenues for self-expression. Each new project builds on art skills that were previously learned
8TH GRADE ART
This is a semester course. This individualized class will give students the opportunity to expand their experiences in their favorite mediums. In-depth projects will allow time to fully develop the possibilities and interests in their mediums. In-depth projects will allow time to fully develop the creative possibilities and interests of each student. The two-dimensional units give students options to choose their own projects. It is strongly recommended that students have previously taken 7th grade art in order to be prepared for the class, as the sequential projects build on art skills that were previously learned. Emphasis is placed on individual effort and creativity.
INTRODUCTION TO ART COURSE
This is a basic 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Design course open to all students regardless of artistic ability or experience. This class is designed to give students a foundation for subsequent studio classes. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the elements and principles of two-dimensional and three dimensional designs; including visual organization, color theory, form and their application in various media. Students are introduced to a wide range of media such as graphite, ink, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, acrylic, clay, etc. Students will learn the fundamental principles and processes of drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, ceramics and sculpture. We will also study the development of Western art from its ancient origins through the 20th century.
CRAFTS/SMALL METALS (Jewelry) COURSE
In this Semester course students will explore the fundamental principles and processes of various craft disciplines. Emphasis in this course will be placed on small metals and metal smiting. Students will learn the basic processes of small metals (jewelry) included design, fabrication, and finishing. A great variety of concepts and processes will be explored with considerable emphasis placed on "learning by doing." Most materials are provided although students may need to purchase some supplies.
PAINTING COURSE
This course introduces students to classical and contemporary painting techniques and processes with an emphasis on composition by using the elements and principles of design to produce quality original works. Color theory, atmospheric perspective, compositional structure, figure/ground relationships, visual perception, spatial concepts, and critical thinking skills will be emphasized. Students will be exploring primarily watercolor and acrylics but alternative painting materials and processes will be addressed. Students will also study major styles and movements of painting from throughout history. Student should be aware that they may need to purchase some supplies.
DRAWING COURSE
In this course students will study the basic concepts and processes of drawing. Emphasis will be placed on both observation and originality. Students will work with a variety of materials; including graphite, ink, chalk pastels, oil pastels, and charcoal. Students will also learn how to use the principles of design to create quality original compositions in various drawing media.
PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE
In this Semester course students will be introduced to the ART of photography. Students will learn to use the camera as a conceptual tool with a focus on composition. Students will also be introduced to the art of collage and learn how to utilize the photograph as a material to advance their design skills, conceptual ability, and their ability to communicate their artistic intent. Students will learn how to properly expose film, how to develop that film, and to make black and white prints. Students will also study major photographers and collage artists from the 20th century. Although students do not need to own a camera for this class, it is recommended.
CERAMICS COURSE
Ceramics is a Semester course where students learn the fundamental processes and principles of ceramics; including design, hand building, wheel throwing, and fabrication. Students will study the design elements/principles and their relationship to ceramics. Students will also learn the ceramic process from preparation to firing and the components of each step. Students will also study various cultures and their use of the 3-Dimensional form as it relates to ceramics. A great variety of concepts and processes will be explored with considerable emphasis placed on "learning by doing."
PRINTMAKING COURSE
This course is an introduction to various printmaking methods including monotype, relief, serigraphy, calligraphy and intaglio. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the historical origins and development of these printmaking methods, and to teach students to use these media and techniques from an aesthetic, as well as technical, standpoint. Emphasis will be placed both on developing technical skills and exploring the printmaking process to create innovative original art work.
STUDIO ART – HONORS COURSE
This course is designed for those students who have demonstrated a strong potential to excel in one or more areas of art. In this course students will use the basic skills and vocabulary they learned in Introduction to Art and/or subsequent studio classes to add depth and breadth to their artwork. Students will learn how to advance their design skills, technical skills, conceptual ability, and their ability to communicate their artistic intent. Students will learn how to create original innovative works of art. This may include, but is not limited to drawings, paintings, sculpture, prints, ceramics, fibers, and small metals.
SCULPTURE COURSE
In this course students will study the basic concepts and materials of three-dimensional form. Students will study plane, volume, mass and their relationship sculpture. Students will learn the fundamental processes sculpture; including design, additive sculpture, subtractive sculpture, found object and fabrication. Students will use various materials including clay, plaster, wood, paper, and metal. Students will also study the various cultures and their use of the 3-Dimensional form.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT ART COURSE
Advanced Placement Art is a full year, two period class. It is only for those students planning on post high school education in art. Students will do extensive studies in aspects of art history and aesthetics, as well as preparing a portfolio for submission to art school, college, and the Advanced Placement Program.
GRAPHIC DESIGN COURSE
In this course students will study the concepts, principles and processes of graphic design. This will include composition, creative and expressive typography, layout, and digital image manipulation through the completion of both print and multimedia visual communications. Students will learn and apply industry standard graphic design software, such as Adobe illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Projects may include, but are not limited to the creation of logos, posters, ads, magazine spreads, information graphics, book covers and animations.
