MIDDLE SCHOOL BUSINESS CONCEPTS
Business Concepts is a course designed to assist students in understanding all of the roles that take place in a free enterprise economy. It will provide the basic principles, concepts, and understanding as vital for development of individuals as effective citizens, employees/employers, and consumers participating in the American system. Units which will be studied will include the organization and economic role of business, the impact of computers in business, the rights and responsibilities of consumers in business, managing your money wisely, and government's role in our economy.
PERSONAL FINANCE COURSE
Personal Finance is a course designed to assist students in understanding financial responsibilities they will encounter in their life. Auto insurance, health insurance (individual and family), credit, banking, budgeting (individual and family), taxes, investments, payroll, and The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are all items that will be covered in this class.
PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING COURSE
This project based course will focus on professionalism, product, place, price and promotion (4 P’s) marketing communications, marketing management, market research and marketing careers. Student will be working with local business owners to develop marketing plans for their products and services. We also, work with Eagle Manufacturing in product development and distribution.
SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT COURSE
This course provides students with an understanding of the basic business management principles within the context of professional sports, amateur sports, youth sports, and the entertainment industry. Promotional marketing, event organizing, human resources, organizational structures, strategic planning and the media impact are discussed. Professional vs. amateur athletics is also analyzed and discussed. Students will analyze current trends and create their own brand for a sports team or entertainment group.
ACCOUNTING - HONORS COURSE
This course is not just for the accountant nor is it just for the person who will work in the business world. Accounting is for all who need to understand financial records so that correct economic and financial decisions can be made. This course provides an understanding of the basic elements and concepts of double-entry accounting systems. Activities include the accounting equation, the accounting cycle, entering transactions in journals, posting to ledgers, end of period statements and reports, payroll systems, banking activities, taxes, uncollectible accounts, depreciation, inventories and notes and interest. Automated accounting principles are integrated into many of the activities such as payroll, preparation of balance sheet, income statements, journal entries and income tax forms. This course is student centered with the basic objective to help students acquire accounting knowledge and understanding. This course will help prepare students whose future may involve the owning and operating of their own business. Students will also will develop and design their own personal accounting system. ADVANCED ACCOUNTING - HONORS COURSE
Students will learn how microcomputers and accounting software help manage, store, calculate, post, retrieve, analyze and print accounting information as well as prepare financial reports. This course will help students acquire in-depth knowledge of accounting procedures and techniques utilized in solving business problems and in making financial decisions. Students will become familiar with the use of business papers, forms and reports
involved in keeping financial records and develop skills to analyze and interpret information common to partnerships and corporations. The focus of the accounting aspects of a corporation including the following topics: special journals, uncollectible accounts, depreciation, inventory and notes and interest. This is a Transcripted Course with Nicolet College.
BUSINESS LAW COURSE
This course is designed to acquaint students with the basic legal principles relevant to their roles as citizens, consumers and employees. Content includes American legal systems and procedures, Constitutional law, criminal and civil law, rights and duties, contract law, consumer protection, torts, employment law, and ethics. Students will be asked to evaluate case studies and participate in mock trials in order to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject.
