Dan Marien

Dan Marien, Principal

Welcome to Northland Pines Middle and High School, Home of the Eagles!

I would like to welcome all of our 7th through 12th grade students and parents/guardians to Northland Pines Middle/High School.  I am very excited to be the principal of both of these wonderful schools.  I have been at Northland Pines for 4 years already.  I started in the High School as the Assistant Principal.  After one year in that role I transitioned to the Middle School where I was the principal of grades 6-8 for two years.  Last year we brought our 7th and 8th graders into the new building to create Northland Pines Middle/High School where I was the principal of grades 7 & 8 and also had other responsibilities within the district.  This coming year I will be overseeing both of the schools in this beautiful building.

Let me be very clear in that we are operating two schools under the same roof.  We are not operating one school moving forward.  Having been in high schools and middle schools for a long time I believe it is important that 7th graders are treated differently than high school students.  Expectations are different, responsibilities are different, but the high level of education they receive will be the same.

I bring with me the experiences of teaching in 3 different school districts before I arrived here at Northland Pines.  From a high school in the inner city of Milwaukee to a rural farming community I have seen and learned a lot about public education and what educators need to do to give their students their best chance to succeed.  We already do this here at Northland Pines and I will continue this tradition.

Since arriving at Northland Pines I have been continually impressed with the dedication to our students.  This starts with the residents in our communities, their support is phenomenal and not taken for granted.  Our School Board members always put students first and work very well with our administration.  Our teachers and support staff regardless of their roles do what is best for our students on a daily basis.  Our students work hard, they have a lot on their plates, and we all work with them to help all of our students reach their full potential.

It has been and continues to be an honor to come to work everyday loving what I do and who I get to work with.  One thing I ask of our parents/guardians as we move forward and you watch your children grow and graduate high school, please stay involved in their progression through middle and high school.  Contact teachers, come in to help in anyway you can, speak to a class, get involved with the middle school PTSO, whatever you can do to stay involved.  In this building we see many changes in our students but one thing that we must always do is be there for them, offer up the guidance they need to be successful in this world, whatever that means to them.  The years our students have in this building will directly impact the rest of their lives!  We do not take this fact lightly, and we want our parents/guardians to be a part of this venture.  Every student, everyday, whatever it takes!
